Public health refers to organized efforts, on part of government, as well as non government organizations, bodies, communities, as well as individuals, along with the society as a whole, in prevention of diseases, improving life span and maintaining over all health of the nation. As it is, public health plays a very vital role for the well being of a nation. In fact, it also plays a very crucial role in the economic development of the nation as well.

However, there are a number of diseases, which are very much dangerous for public health. The following is a list of major public health enemies, which kill a number of people each year:

This is one of the most dreaded enemies of public health. It has been responsible for a number of deaths in the past few years and continues to do so at present. The most dangerous aspect of HIV/AIDs is that, we still do not have any cure for them, and thus, the only way of cure, is prevention from getting affected.

2. Cancer
Cancer has always been a major cause of concern, as far as public health was concerned. Despite all the medical advancement, in the last few years, cancer still continues to scare the wits out of us. This is because; it is still a deadly disease and continues to kill people with ease.

3. Diabetes
Diabetes is one of the most deadly diseases of mankind. It is a silent killer, which does little, to warn a person, before it is too late. Many people, who are suffering from diabetes, are not even aware of it. This makes the situation, all the more difficult. With absolutely no control over the blood sugar level, the blood sugar level may at times lower drastically, resulting in serious repercussions.

4. Heart disease
Heart diseases are perhaps the most common cause of death in the United States. So, while you lay down on the couch, munching on potato wafers and watching the latest movie, did you ever realize the danger called heart disease? The answer might well be no. but while you continue with your erratic lifestyle; a word of caution for you. Heart disease is a major cause of death in America.

5. Osteoporosis
Millions of people in America suffer from osteoporosis. A direct result of poor bone health caused by nutritional decencies, such as lack of proper intake of vitamins B6, C, D, K, folic acid and minerals like magnesium, zinc, and cooper.

Public health is a major area of concern. It is worth reminding that not just the government; we as a nation need to stand up and wage a war against these enemies of public health.
